This movement was almost directly after the American Revolution, as people in France were inspired by the colonists expressing themselves against one of the most powerful armies. Once again the movement of the people in France was also justified by the natural rights of John Locke. The people of France took heavy inspiration of the American Revolution because they went against the most powerful army of the time.
