in 1169 a Frankish plot was found amongst the shi’ite leaders in Egypt, who were in Saladin’s court, to remove Saladin - Saladin knew that he needed to have power over his surrounding advisors and so he had the plotters killed, and this caused a lot of unrest in Egypt - Saladin had to fight for control in Egypt and once he became the Vizier of the Fatmiid Caliph, he recieved a lot of pressure from al-Din to try and dissolve the Shi’Ite caliphate in the area
