Marie & Pierre Curie isolated Radium, disproving Dalton's assumption that atoms are invisible. Radioactive atoms undergo drastic changes while emitting radiation. This was discovered when this couple extracted uranium from the ore and found that the leftover ore showed more activity than the pure uranium.
