This document was written by Thomas Jefferson regarding that the colonies have overthrown their ruler and has accepted to be a separate nation from the world. In addition, Thomas Jefferson also got his ideas from John Locke's beliefs that people had a natural right to defend their Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
