Written by exiled Italian diplomat, The Prince laid the foundations for modern government. It described how a ruler should rule by the law, not morals and be feared by their people, not loved. He stated his philosophy would evidently do the most good, but was diverging from traditional Catholic principles, or having indiviudal thought and ideas (OS).
