Like Henri Becquerel whom they worked with, scientist Marie and physicist Pierre Curie studied radioactivity and were responsible for element discoveries. Their studies of radioactivity led them to discover elements radium and polonium in 1898. The married couple later won Nobel prize in Physics in 1903. Their discovery of these two elements founded a completely new scientific field being radioactivity.
