The year 1967 is marked as the turning point for American history and the start of the 'New Hollywood' generation. Before this New Hollywood films were mediocre but few filmmakers were willing to go against the mainstream types of films. However soon began the uprise of independent American filmmakers who went against this and created films including violence, sex and drug taking. Jack Valenti being appointed as the new head of the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) resulted in more freedom with what filmmakers could include in their films. What makes this year so rememberable is these two films: Bonnie and Clyde and The Graduate. Their rebellious films unexpectedly increased the success of the box office. The success of this 'New Hollywood' continued until 1969.
I think the 'New Hollywood' was extremely significant to the development of TV and film. It marked a change in American filmmaking forever. New Hollywood created a new type of film that no one had ever seen before and therefore without it film may not be the way it is today with numerous different genres.
