The Sisters of Providence of Holyoke are a worldwide religious order. In 1873 a group came to Holyoke from Kingston, Ontario, Canada (a place with a large Irish population) and worked to serve immigrants and the poor. They are responsible for a network of hospitals including Holyoke's Providence Place.
