After another 50 years, Democritus had passed away and the third philosopher stepped in. His name was Aristotle, he was already very famous for his studies in Mathematics and philosophy. Him and one of his associates Socrates worked together and they believed that the theory that Democritus came up with was false and that they should take another go at Empedocles theory of the four elements. This theory afterwards influenced the scientific way of thinking for about 2000 years. Aristotle's theory that empty space didn't exist was proven to be incorrect because it was proven that atoms do float in empty space.
