The Charter Schools Act of 1992 is passed- California became the second state in the nation to adopt standards and expectations for charter schools in the state to operate and receive public funding. "The "charter" establishing each such school is a contract detailing the school's mission, program, goals, students served, methods of assessment, and ways to measure success" and they have been very successful in the state with over " 1230 schools, serving more than 581,000 public school students” (About Charter Schools).
