This is a very important date because it marks the end of the reign of terror in France. After only 16 000 deaths! The belief for why Robespierre did this is because he was paranoid that he and the revolution were being plotted against. Not only was Robespierre killed but so was 21 of his colleagues from the committee of public safety.
