The Brierley family does not give a new life to just Saroo. When he turned 10, another Indian child named Mantosh, a year younger than Saroo, was now his little brother. The brothers were opposites, with Mantosh being loud and rebellling, and Saroo being more reserved and rule-following.

As it turns out, Mantosh went through a similar (adoption) process. He grew up in Calcutta, and after having some trouble with family, his grandmother too old to care for him, Mantosh was handed over to the state, then an ISSA orphanage like Nava Jeevan. However, his two month adoption process expired, and he was transferred to Liluah. He had a very hard life, even just being nine years old.
According to Sue Brierley, at this current date, Mantosh's story "is still unraveling".
