Edward III launched his final raid at Rheims, with the aim of defeating the French King and being crowned himself. Yet, the city did not fall and peace negotiations started to follow behind. The Treaty of Bretigny was sealed in 1360, requiring france to pay 3 million crowns for the ransom of King John and cede territory in Aquitaine. In return Edward would have to give up all claims to the French throne.
