Andrew Jackson and his men ambushed the exposed British soldiers, causing them to retreat and leave behind 700 dead, 1400 wounded, and 500 prisoners. Jackson's losses included 8 killed and 13 wounded. Only later did news of the peace treaty signed by the two nations several weeks earlier reach New Orleans.
