Known as the "Shot Heard Around the World." Marked the outbreak of open armed conflict between British government and American colonies. Paul Revere's Midnight Ride to warn the Colonists that the British were coming. Colonial militias in Lexington and Concord MA open fire on advancing British troops, killing many and forcing retreat. British troops retreat to ships in Boston Harbor.
