one of the most radical abolitionists of his time (possibly influenced Nat Turner's rebellion in 1831); early example of the expression of black rage; argues that slavery is anti-christian as God is the only one who should be called "master" (slaves are being disobedient by calling slave owners master/whites are being disobedient by asserting themselves to be masters); argues that transatlantic slave trade was the worst form of slavery; argues that whites don't acknowledge the hypocrisy of slavery (calls others barbarous for mistreating people but fails to acknowledge the evils of slavery); argues that black people are people who deserve rights (uses language of Declaration of Independence to declare himself a man deserving of being treated humainly)
