After the death of Charles II, James II succeeded his brother's throne and became king.

However, he was vastly disliked by members of parliament were displeased with his rule, because of his outwards Roman Catholicism.

The Anglican members of parliament were displeased and he was ultimately deposed in the Glorious Revolution, making way for William and Mary who would bring about change in the monarchy.
