This novel follows the story of Esch Batiste, a teenager who as just discovered she is pregnant, and her family in the days before during and after Hurricane Katrina. Ward wrote this book in order to shine a light on the stories of Katrina that are often forgotten or disregarded by the public, stories similar to her own.
