“a toxic mix of uncertainty, unlawful detention and inhumane conditions [is] creating an increasingly volatile situation on Nauru”. Amnesty concluded that “the human rights of these men are being breached by both the Australian and Nauruan Government” and recommended that the Nauru facility be closed and all asylum seekers be transferred back to Australia.
