Microsoft's Foundation (April 4th, 1975) - Microsoft was founded with the intent to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800, an early micro-computer. It rose to dominate the personal computer operating system market with MS-DOS in the mid-1980s, followed by Microsoft Windows and made personal computers much more accessible. Microsoft is still in usage today, but now focuses on cloud computing.
