The jihadist movement against Portugal and Spain seem unorganized until two Muslim heroes come (Barbarossa brothers), with the name of Khayr al-Din Barbarossa and Oruc Barbarossa. These two Islamic heroes managed to united Muslims in Algeria and prevent Portugal and Spain from expand their territories of the port city and city in Northern Africa. They succeeded in war with European although at first they did not receive any support from any Islamic empire. They also succeeded in conquering territories in Algerian coastal area from the Spain and other place such as Aljir and Bajayah.
After consolidating his power and declaring himself as the Sultan of Algeirs, Oruc wants to expand his territory and took Miliana, Medea and Tenes. But then, he changed his mind and think that the best protection against Spain was to join the Great Ottoman Empire, his own homeland and Spain's biggest enemy. Then, he removed his title (Sultan of Algeirs) and offered the territory to the Ottoman Sultan, (Selim I) in 1517. The Sultan accepted Algeirs as an Ottoman 'Sanjak' (province) and appointed Oruc as the governor of Algeirs and chief sea governor of the West Mediterranean, and promised to support him with army force and complete war weapon.
