The mayflower compact was like a mini declaration for pilgrims as they set out for America. The people created a set of laws and rules that they would follow to keep themselves unified and not be corrupted by tyranny. It also gave these pilgrims freedom and certain rights that they did not have in England, such as freedom of religion.
