Childbed Fever is most common maternal death after childbirth. The bacterium, Streptococcus pypgenes, was identified in 1879. Antibiotics were not available until the 1930's. This remains a major cause of maternal mortality today in resource-poor settings. The symptoms of Childbed Fever are headache, elevated temperature, chills, vomiting, dry tongue & lips, abdominal tenderness, and foul smell.
