The introduction of the internet increased the amount of coping and sharing of different digital media. The issue was this sharing was often in violation of national copy right laws. To combat this the US congress put in place DMCA to stiffen the punishment for violation of copyright laws on the internet. This Act has become very influential around the world affect other similar laws to come after it.
