Scenes from the story of Jonah are shown in lunettes around the central figure of Christ as the Good Shepherd in this ceiling fresco. Jonah functions as an Old Testament type for Christ because of the elements of death and renewal in his story (being eaten then released after three days). However, Jonah is also shown reclining in a pose resembling Roman poses of satisfaction beneath vines
