People of Macedonia were in denial that Alexander should be king. Some city-states revolted against him such as Theban. Alexander led 33,000 troops to Theban to have them all slaughtered. Shooken by the event, all Greek city-states pledged allegiance to Macedonia. The Battle of Theban was the beginning of the Balkan Campaign.
