English mathematician and inventor, Charles Babbage was born in London, England on December 26, 1791. Babbage is credited with conceiving the first attempt at making an automatic digital computer. From 1828 to 1839 Babbage moved to Cambridge, England where he became a Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge until his death at age 79 (October 18,1871).
