This was a time period of dramatic political and social change. More people were living in the city than on farms. The nation's wealth was increasing rapidly. Everyone was listening to the same music, using the same slang, and dancing the same dances. The symbol; most thougght of was the "flapper". These women had bobbed hair and short skirts who drank, smoked and said what might be termed “unladylike” things.
