1 out 1972 ano - Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment ends
Descrição:
The experiment, which involved studying syphilis in the male African-American population from 1932 - 1972, comes to an end after a public outcry. A review panel showed that the study was ethical, but further examination showed that the human subjects were not fully informed and treatment was withheld. When penicillin became the treatment of choice for syphilis in the 1940's, it was never offered to the study participants. The benefits of the study were minimal compared to the harm it caused. (cdc.gov). This was a turning point in medical ethics and led to the National Research Act of 1974.
