A Notice of Proposed Rule Making was issued to announce revisions to the Common Rule. Over 2000 comments and suggestions were received. Notable changes to the review process involved loosening restrictions and making the IRB process easier to use and less cumbersome. Minimal risk studies would require less frequent check-ins, consent forms were altered, and there were slight changes to dealing with identifiable vs deindentifiable data (duke.edu).
