The siege of Yorktown lasted from September 28th to October 19, 1781 in Yorktown, Virginia. General George Washington of the continental army led a decisive victory that forced General Cornwallis to surrender. While not the end of the war, this was the last major land battle to take place, and led to the end of the Revolution and the signing of the Treaty of Paris.
