c. 1315 or 1330- "Life on Kilwa was very pleasant at its peak during 1100– 1500s. At the time the Portuguese arrived, its population was somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000. The Sultan lived in a 100-room palace, the Husuni Kubwa, a short distance from the town,
was which apparently built between 1315 and 1330 for the Sultan Al-Hasan ibn Sulaiman at
the height of Kilwa’s prosperity. It seems to have been a mixture of private palace and trading
