Colonist already furious about the Townshend Act began to revolt against the British troops sent to Boston and against British shop keepers. The Boston Massacre is a result of these fights and revolts gone wrong. Private Hugh White was the only soldier station in front of the Custom House, when eventually colonist came and started to insult and threaten him. This eventually led to a fight with blows coming from both sides, and eventually reinforcements came for both sides. In the heat and confusion of the fight a gun went off (why and how is a controversial subject), which led to others firing. In the end 5 colonist were killed and 6 wounded. Sons of Liberty leaders encouraged the colonist to keep fighting and revolting, Tensions continued to rise and troops eventually fled. The Boston massacre had a big impact on Britain and Colonists relations, furthering the Colonists weariness of Britian and motivating the fight for independence.
