Due to the fact that Canada was a Dominion of the British Empire, when Britain declared war on Germany--therefore entering WWI--Canada had no choice but to aide Britain.

Canada (along with her population of eight million) would commit to the war effort; she (Canada) would send men, material, and mobilize the home front. This initial commitment was 25,000 equipped and shipped to European theater with an estimated cost of some $50 million.
