March 25,1911 146 people died and 71 were wounded. Women and both men died from jumping out the windows and breathing in smoke. Also the fire escape was not long enough to reach the ninth floor to save the trapped workers. They had very narrow walk ways only one person could go at a time. This had a historical significance increased the reason why workers should come together because of their working environment. It increased regulations business had to follow to make it more of a stable environment.
