In accordance with the Truman Doctrine, Marshall Plan (officially the European Recovery Program, ERP) was an American initiative to aid Western Europe (the plan was eventually expanded to provide aide to contries such as Japan), in which the United States gave over $12 billion in economic assistance to help rebuild Western European and economies after the end of World War II.
