The Spanish American war was concluded with a peace deal on this date, although the treaty would not be ratified by Congress until 1900. In the peace, terms specified that the U.S would gain the territories of Guam, Cuba, Philippines, Puerto Rico and in exchange the U.S would pay Spain $20 million.
