24 jan 1958 ano - Integrated Circuit Being Invented by Jack St. Clair Kilby of Texas Instrument
Descrição:
Transistors, like other electronic components, needed to be soldered together. As a result, the more complex the circuits became, the more complicated and numerous the connections between the individual transistors and the likelihood of faulty wiring increased. In 1958, this problem too was solved by Jack St. Clair Kilby of Texas Instruments with his invention of the first chip. In reality, the invention of the first silicon chip pushed the history into the age of informatics and electronics we know today.
1. It replaced the vacuum tubes which were highly inefficient and required a great deal of space.
2. A integrated circuit is basically a collection of tiny transistors which are connected together, and thus the need for soldering together large numbers of transistors was practically nullified
3. With this invention computers became smaller, more powerful more reliable and they are able to run many different programs at the same time.
