Elected at age 69, being the oldest person to be elected president, over Jimmy Carter with running mate George Bush. Won in a landslide victory because of the inflation and year long confinement of Americans in Iran. Sworn into office on January 20, 1981. Was later shot in an assassination attempted but a quick recovery and return to duty caused his popularity to soar.
