Sponsored by the Spaniard Monarchs, Isabella I and Ferdinand II, Columbus sailed the Atlantic in an attempt to circumnavigate the Earth and reach the Indian Ocean. Instead he lands on the Canary Islands. Columbus returns with stories of "primitive" peoples who are oblivious to Christian Customs.
