Mezzotint is a form of etching by the creation of printing by the printer etching lots of little holes into the plate which is metal and these will all hold ink so that when you create the print of the image, it will be different tones depending on how far each of the holes are. Initially, each of the holes were created by a roulette which is a small wheel with small points on it, but later an instrument called a rocker was created, this resembles a small spade with a sharp toothed edge.
