Based on his observations through his telescope, Galileo realized that the theory of the earth at the center of the universe was wrong. He confirmed many theories of Copernicus, like the heliocentric theory, but this angered the Church. In 1632, Galileo published his book, "Dialogues on the Two Chief Systems of the World" and was summoned to Rome by the Inquisition. Galileo refused to renounce his scienitific beliefs and was condemned to house arrest for the rest of his life, and his book was banned by the Catholic Church.
