He explored a part of the Mississippi River. In 1713 he was commissioned by the governor of Louisiana to open a trade route to Mexico. He arrived in Mexico in July 1714. He was a legendary 3rd-century Christian martyr and saint. He was French, and he became bishop of Paris.
