22 out 1841 ano - Southern Unity
Campaign
Descrição:
In the Carolina War, as the Union forces closed in on Columbia, South Carolina President John Calhoun fled to Mexico to avoid punishment. However, not long after his self exile, he returned to the United States in 1840 following the political turmoil in Mexico.
Using propaganda and scare tactics, starting in October of 1841, Calhoun began what he called the Southern Unity Campaign, which sought to recreate the brotherhood that southern states felt prior to the Carolina War.
His campaign was largely successful in the deep south, even after his death in 1850. Additionally it is considered one of the most important factors leading up to the War between the States. It is unlikely that the southern states would join together without this campaign.
