22 out 2013 ano - Endangered Snuffbox Mussel
delays Grand River
Whitewater Project
Descrição:
Mussels are good for rivers because they help filter the water and work with the ecosystem in a positive way. Even though there were only 5 living snuffbox mussels found in 17 days, that was enough to slow down the project because they don't want the project to continue until they do a special assessment of the snuffbox population in the area. They would have most likely already removed the Lyons dam if the endangered mussels hadn't been discovered. The report won't even be finished until spring, but even with that as a factor the project wont be complete for a few more years at the least.
