Nate Ruess, who was born in Iowa City, was the lead singer of the band fun. Their song "Some Nights" made it to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and their song "We are Young" reached number 1 on the same chart. "We are Young" won the group a Grammy award in 2013.

Ruess was also featured on P!nk's "Just Give me a Reason", which was number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and has been featured in other popular songs as well. He is now pursuing a solo music career while fun. is on hiatus.
