The Social Service League organized a food bank that, with help from the state, fed roughly 950 families per week. The League helped to make sure that the resources went to the families who needed them most based on family size and a variety of other factors.
The food to fill the food bank came from the state government. Following the Great Depression, the government worked to buy up surplus food from around the state and redistribute it to those who needed it most, often through partnerships with organizations like the Social service League. This helped to boost the economy while also taking care of needy citizens.
