Also known as, the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, a collective defense treaty signed among the Soviet Union and 7 Soviet satellite states located in Central and Eastern Europe. The pact was created in response to NATO, as a counterweight, but also considered to have been made to satisfy the motivations of the Soviet Union regarding maintaining military control over Eastern and Central Europe.
