Escaping members of the Haitian administration, including the Generalissimo, fled across the border along with many other refugees as Confederate officials began welcoming those of French descent to reacquire slaves. Marines which were stationed in Haiti chased at the fleeing Generalissimo, and in the confusion, toppled the government of the Dominican. The CSA incorporated into the Hispaniola Territory.
