The Marshall Plan was an initiative from Harry S. Truman to support the rebuild the continent after the consequences of WWII. The US provided more than $15 billion to Western Europe. Named after the U.S. Secretary of State George C. Marshall, this four-year plan was put into place to help rebuild cities, buildings, and industries as well as free up trade barriers between the US and these countries. The Marshall Plan also aimed to end the spread of Communist ideologies in Europe, which is an example of containment.
